Character: Dave Strider
Series: Homestuck
Deviance: 2; After the Scratch, he becomes the guardian instead of being the kid.

Age: His mid fifties (A specific age was never said)
Gender: Male
Species: Human

Canon Used: Homestuck Webcomic Canon

Appearance: Here and here

Psychology:
Dave is a motherfucking coolkid. Well, coolkid might be a bad way to explain it. He's no longer a kid, after all. He's an adult. Dave is a lot like his original universe counterpart in some ways. He retains that coolness. Dirk seems to respect Dave a lot in the manner.

He also seems to play the ironic card too, doing things for the sake of irony, but seemingly making a living off it now through shitty movies he makes and other stupid things that seems to do well. He even owns a museum full of classical irony and it seems to be something that Dirk latched onto, too. Dave, in general, seems to have a lot of knowledge in pop culture and the world around him. It probably makes sense that he has to be aware of everything given his position he will eventually step up to in the future.

Dave isn't afraid to take things too far or voice himself. He does it in subtle ways though. He doesn't quite shout it, and most likely, many people interpret him wrong or differently from the point he's trying to make. Of course, he probably does that on purpose. He keeps that certain air of mystery around him that way. In that regard, it also protects him. He doesn't have to show his true self and it makes it harder for people to really know him. It also gives him a reason to hold people at arm's length if he does that. Much like the pre-scratch version of himself, he's emotionally stunted in some regards. He also can be hard headed and stubborn because of this. It can lead to fairly dumb ideas. He's smart, yes, but sometimes common sense just doesn't always come to him.

Dave is calm and collective. He doesn't quite freak out and keeps his emotions more in check than his younger counter part. It's mostly due to his age and maturing that he's like this. He's also slightly more expressive because of it though. He doesn't quite always keep that completely nonchalant attitude up. He doesn't feel like he has to as much. Dave just doesn't quite react or flip the proverbial handle like his younger self probably would. That doesn't mean he doesn't get legitimately upset or anything. Still, he can start rambling like no other when he gets flustered or just when he wants to. Sometimes he forgets to flip the switch off and goes on a verbal rant that runs in circles. Getting him to shut up can be kind of hard to do.

There's a slight bitterness to this Dave. Perhaps for many reasons, but it sticks to him and makes itself impossible to be rid of. It's most likely the vague visions (or dreams) that he experiences of a life that he doesn't have. Dave has a very vague recollection of SBURB and the life that Dave of that incarnation had. It just makes him incredibly bitter. And lonesome. Dave, for all his fame and glory, is rather disconnected to the people around him. He doesn't quite attach himself to anyone in particular. He probably only grows close to Rose. Someone who can relate and understands how he feels. She's the only one he's familiar with since he doesn't grow up with Jade and John's friendship.

Dave is really a grade-a douchebag. He says and does things that come off as being a prick. His cool demeanor makes him seem uncaring. He's aloof and nonchalant and he hides his emotions behind a thick wall. It's not perfect, and to some point, this is part of who Dave is. It's also a finely made mask at times too. Sometimes it's hard to tell when Dave is acting or actually being that type of person. He's kind of a performer. He plays the role of hot shot director very well. He can be funny and he acts like what people seem to expect him to be like. The show must go on, right?

But he isn't all prick. Dave does have a good head on him and an even better heart. He does everything for a reason, although sometimes the intentions don't quite reflect in his actions. He's still a bit of a dork. He likes things that would seem nerdy or lame and he does have his times where he's truly kind of embarrassing and lame. They're just moments that the media or public don't see. He shows care in different ways from others. Although he will never meet Dirk in person, Dave prepares for Dirk's arrival as best he can. He leaves behind what he can for the other. The only sign he'll be able to convey to Dirk that he cares deep down inside. He shows his insight and devotion to people through his movies, trying to pull up a resistance against an impeding tyrannical rule under the guise of a corporation.

Dave is different in these regards in that he doesn't fear death nor doesn't fear killing. Dave steps forward to take down corrupt politicians in his wake. He stands up to the Condesce even when death is the only thing he'll be facing going against her. Dave is a hero in those regards.

Other Skills/Abilities:
Fighting: Dave is a well trained fighter, being quite good at fighting with a sword. His speed is his forte (he can do something called flash stepping, where he can move so fast that the normal eye usually cannot see the movement). He's regarded as being a knight or being in a "martial nobility."
Visions: He has visions of the Dave that does play SBURB. He doesn't have a very strong memory of it and only has a vague understanding of it.
Entertainer: Dave grows up to be a well-reknowned Movie Director. He's sharp and very good at entertaining. He's skilled at screenwriting and has a vast knowledge of pop culture during his time.

Other Weaknesses:
I would say because he's more on the speedier side, he's easier to overtake through brute strength because he doesn't have the massive power or muscle head to head.

He gets kind of weirded out by puppets. It's not a full blown out phobia, but they can make him uncomfortable.

History:
Pre-Scratch Dave

Post-Scratch Dave

Post-Scratch Dave lives a fairly different life as oppose to Pre-Scratch Dave. He grows up in the same city and high rise apartment, but there's a glaring difference. Post-scratch, his role is switched to that of being the guardian. Instead of his Bro raising him, he was to raise his Bro.

Unfortunately, that will never come to be.

Dave grows up, likely, like his original counterpart for the most part. But even then, there are differences. Dave doesn't grow up with Jade, John, and Rose as his friends. Their colored texts and quirks will never be a norm in his life as Jade and John are born much earlier than he is. While Dave may have heard or known the two by name, he would never actually get to know them. However, it is likely that him and Rose befriend each other. It is highly possible that both of them have knowledge of what is to come or even have memories of themselves in the pre-scratch timeline. An example would be Dave's obsession with Con Air at some point. Dave never met John, but he grew obsessed with John's favorite movie. There's also many parallels between the pre-scratch Dave and Rose with the post-scratch Dave and Rose. Dave is considered a "martial nobility" like a knight and Rose still holds her powers as a Seer. Dave still wears Ben Stiller shades, although they were give to him by Ben as oppose to John. Rose also has "wytchkkraft" powers and once in awhile, during photos, Rose will blacks out which parallels when Rose had went grimdark.

Dave grows up to be a famous movie maker and holds a rather vast media empire. The webcomics he makes in the pre-scratch timeline end up being a series of famous movies that he makes in the scratched universe. Dave is still the brilliant mastermind behind Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff. But things are quite amiss in the scratched universe. The Crocker corporation has slowly been gaining power and only very few seem to realize the danger of it. Jade English(Jade Harley), being one of the first to try and go against the Batterwitch. Dave's movies were heavily lined with symbolic meaning pertaining to the Batterwitch or trying to leave some kind of message to the audience. Much like Rose and her CotL series, they were very subtle in their messages. Not wanting to start too large of waves too early, they had to be more indirect about how they went about things.

He cranked up his production 11/11/11, even when things are already out of the bag. It just shows Dave's devotion to his work.

While diving into all this though, the two were also preparing for Dirk and Roxy's eventual arrival. Rose, who seems to retain her Seer-like tendencies and interests in the occult, knew that they would eventually arrive. Both Rose and Dave prepared both their homes for this arrival. Dirk would eventually inherit the apartment that Dave lived in and everything that Dave left behind for him. This included tech and weapons and a lifetime supply of orange soda.

Eventually though, the "rebranding" will happen. It happens on 3/11 and causes the downfall of the western civilization. The world started preparing to go to war with the Baroness(Batterwitch), only, they were just preparing and building to set her own armies up instead. The media deteriorated and entertainers became demagogues. The Baroness would pay these people to push her agenda forward. By the end of it, the Surpreme court was held by a corrupt man (Darn you Guy Fieri!) and the Constitution was rewritten for the Baroness' eventual throning. Billions of people were being eradicated by this time.

The last free election held was 2024 when President Jay and Dope were elected as the first and last dual presidents of the United States. They were juggalos and the juggalo party had gotten huge at this point. Of course there was nothing to really be done since the Baroness backed them up. The next few terms were horrendous as the presidents did nothing but spiral society downward with the help of Fieri. At this point, Rose and Dave had enough of these antics. With the resistance movement failed, they had little left to do. But they could bring these criminals to justice.

Dave had challenged the two presidents to a duel. Dave would be regarded as an iconic hero, his showdown on the rooftop against the juggalo presidents would be cited as one of the most heroic moments human history would ever see.

He would kill both of them.

No one really knows what happens to Dave after. The only thing a few could mention was a man holding a sword flying off into the sky on a shitty skateboard.

It is likely after this that Rose and Dave regrouped after Rose had taken down Fieri. There are no actual concrete evidence, but only theories. Seeing as the human population had been decimated and there was nothing else they could do, Rose and Dave would confront the Condesce herself. Of course, their final battle with her would only end in defeat. At that point, the Condesce was completely overpowering and the two would go down fighting against her.

Canon Point: Before his final battle with Her Imperious Condescension

Reality Description:
Dave's reality is a world where human civilization is crumbling. The world is falling apart as the human race are dying in the millions. Everything is chaotic as Her Imperious Condescension takes control. Dave's reality centers around the decaying city of New York City. The buildings are falling to ruin as you would expect during an apocalypse. The place is probably overrun by Imperial Drones that are under Her Imperious Condescension's command. The White House is overtaken by juggalos, along with the world itself due to the current Presidents. The water has been replaced by Faygo.

There's also probably JPEG artifacts made by Dave. These are terribly pixelated and badly colored versions of objects (think like the Statue of Liberty copied a bunch of times but now they're really shitty).

First Person Speaking Sample:
I want to be surprised or taken aback. I really do. Trust me, no one appreciates straight up, stereotypical reactions when being thrown into something weird and bizarre like I do. I make a living off Hollywood reactions. Like, holy shit, where am I? And then some omnipotent voice starts speaking and basically tells you everything because they're omnipotent. That's what they fucking do. Shit, what was I getting to? [There's a pause.] Right. I want to be surprised, but I'm really not. I've been desensitized to weird shit and it's terrible.

I guess it's for the best. I'd think I was on some weird ass trip otherwise. That's really easy to do when your water source has been replaced by Faygo and juggalos are in power.

I'm not talking to myself right? Like this void shit that I guess is called "The Plane"-[He even did fucking air quotes. What a guy.]-isn't just me rambling to myself surrounded by a whole lot of nothing? I'm not ready to go senile. I barely got to even go through midlife crisis. I didn't get to even. How jank is that? Didn't get to buy a shitton of flashy cars and whatever you do during one.

Anyone around? Might just ollie outtie if not. I got stuff to do. Kind of got a date with the Presidents.

Third Person Writing Sample:
Holy shit, he's being ridiculously anime right now. He's almost disgusted about how anime this is. Dave has been wandering around the Astral Plane. It was pretty nice and interesting. A hell of a lot more enjoyable than a slowly crumbling, apocalyptic world.

He found the theatre recently and that was great. He enjoyed it a lot. It was nice being in a working theatre again. He doesn't really get those kind of things anymore. Not much of a movie industry when people were dying in the thousands everyday. Details.

Oh wait, why is he being ultra anime right now? Dave found the forest. There was a lot of different type of life here, but it's still really anime. Dave almost hates himself that he's standing in a clearing with his katana. Of course he had to use a katana as his weapon of choice. Is this his replacement of a mid-life crisis? He's a middle-aged weeaboo? His true legacy is the oldest fucking weeaboo. Welp. He kind of wishes he had some samurai get up or something. Jeans and t-shirt or a nice tailored suit seems so ill-fitting now.

Dave can see why training montages tended to be in a forest though. It was actually really nice and calming being here. He can clear his mind and just let his thoughts drift. Everything was so chaotic back in his reality that this was a rare moment he could appreciate.

He pulled his sword out of its sheath and held it out for a moment. For a moment, he almost feels like he has time at his fingertips. That he can slow it down. Stop it almost. Maybe just for this moment, he was the Knight he thinks he was another life. But that moment is over and he takes a swipe at a falling leaf. Shit, look at that beautiful slash. Shit, is he Naruto yet? Is he seriously thinking about something this fucking dumb? Hell yes. But there's something gratifying hitting a target so small. Something that moved so strangely that he had to concentrate on it to hit it.

He sheathes his sword again and admires the two pieces of the leaf that touched the ground. He really likes this place.

Did you read the rules? Heck yeah.
